I have had my Fortuner for 4 months and also FLIPPED it at 80 km!!!! I used to think I am a queen in my Fortuner but doubt now to buy another one. If I only knew Fortuners can FLIP soooooo easy! Wonder what I will get paid out from Insurance as my Fortuner is written off!
I am very disappointed in the Fortuner!!! Definately I am going to instruct my husband NOT to buy another one, just wonder what we will have to buy now as we have driven Toyota our whole lifes!! Any ideas??

I drive a 2008 Fortuner 3.0 D4D 4×4 and no problems what so ever .I use to drive a 2.7 Hilux 4×4 and tried every off-road route I can get my hands on and the Fortuner behave exellent on and off-road.I pushed to the limit just to see if all the roll-over stories are true and with confidence I can say it’s one of the best because I’ve got the proof. The 4×4 champion drives and compete with a Fortuner with standard suspension and no problems,no roll-overs .

I work at a Toyota garage and we have a lot of fortuners with serious problems.
Its a dangerous car and should not be allowed on the road if you ask me.
People who respond here saying they don’t have issues with the fortuner are probably working for Toyota en are doing damage control.

To Fortuner Sceptics
By & large i beleive most of these stories of “gatsawaai” driving a Fortuna on gravel are exaggurated.I have personally driven one on gravel
& on purpose driven rather reclessly to find its limit.I drove my “Discovery V8 ” on the same road (+-240kms).I have since bought a Fortuner & am very happy with the overhaul road holding of this vechile.
I still have the “Discovery”.
Happy motorist

I have a problem with my 2009 Fortuner as it some times the break fails, has any one experienced a similar problem?!

I am a proud owner of fortuner 2 years back.
When I first get my car there are dark patches of sooth on the cream colour plastics and the white leather get dirty very fast. They offer to clean it up (leather seats are not included in the service) Then in a week or so, it came back again. (unsolved even today)
Emergency brakes are terrible. I have many close encounter. Sudden breaking nearly sent me into the ditch or crashing another car in front. Supervisors said it can be done by tightening the brakes. The brakes works fine only for the first few braking. I ask them to check again. They said the have test drive it. They assured me that there is no problem with the brakes. (unsolved even today )
The engine is giving out abnormal amount of sooth for a new car. Complaint it as well. Agent supervisor said that there is no problem because this is a diesel car. Even when I ask about the oily sooth clinging to the exhaust pipe’s interior wall! He said it’s absolutely normal. Then it happens after about 3 or 4 months. The engine’s idling seems different. Supervisor doesn’t admit it until the whole car loose power. Eventually Fortuner was left overnight for inspection. Second day, Supervisor said not to worry, because they have change all the 4 pcs of diesel injectors. (this guy is lying!) A few weeks later, I came to know that they have only change one of the injectors. And there rest are of lower pressure from the new one.
The rear absorber is leaking a few km after the warranty period. The whole absorber is wet. NBT still have not answered. (still waiting)
I guess the salesman can’t take all this responsibility that he quit this job.
All over the world, Toyota’s is recalling their PROBLEMED cars. I wait and see attitude? Life is at stake here!

Fortuner V4 2.7 is making alot of noise through the silencer. Is it audible inside the car?. If No (I shall go for it) and if Yes (will probably think of another car)

I’ve bought a Fortuner SRV 2009 in Peru, 41,500 USD.
I went to Mancora, a famous beach in Peru, 16 hours from here, to test the car.
I was at 120-160km/h at it was very stable. It has 15300km now , and no problems yet,i’ve took it on off road last week, and runs great.
Idk about the other models; but, untill now,it’s working fine .

I am about to purchase a 2006 Fortuner 3.0D4D 4×4, is it a good vehicle? not to sure now about the articles about them flipping over on gravel roads.

Hi Douglas.
I think it’s a good vehicle once the handling problems are sorted out. As you probably know, not all vehicles seem to suffer from this perceived problem, so I wish you many happy KM’s in your Fortuner if you do choose one. We certainly enjoy ours.

I see your logic in the question you asked. Who knows, someone might be willing to sell you some rims.

I am looking for three Toyota Fortuner 2008 model 16″ mag rims and can not find any. If there is so much of these vehicles rolled, could you perhaps put me on somebody where I can find these rims?

Hi Ben
I have no idea why they told you that it will take 6 weeks to figure out whether your car is one of the chosen few. With my car, the service manager sat in the passenger seat for a quick drive, and that was it. Apparantly you can also just check the date on the tires. It should say “3008″. I have recently purchased a 3.0D4D Fortuner. What a lovely ride,UNTILL i hit a rumble strip on my way to Cape Town. There was six of us in the vehicle and towing a six foot Venter trailer. This had a negative effect on us all and we were not happy traveling any further in this vehicle.I took it for its first service(10000km)on the 19 Jan 2009 i was then told that i have to wait six weeks for Toyota to establish if this is one of the problem vehicles(tyres)at present i am not driving the vehicle as lack of confidence.Did a test on a gravel road and i can see why people complain.IT IS HAIR RAISING,50 km/hr is about 49 to fast.Have 5 weeks left to wait,Lets hope the problem can be solved.
