Web

I really do.

I subscribed to Audible.com after hearing about it on the excellent TWIT technology podcasts. The deal was that if you subscribe to the special offer, you can choose one audio book of your liking.

I subscribed, and gave my credit card details, as you could not register otherwise. I thought I would give this whole audio book thing a bash.

As soon as I looked for a suitable book, I realised that as a international user, living in South-Africa, I can only see a very small percentage of the available books. Rightly so, I was annoyed, as there was no mention anywhere obvious that I would not have access to all the books. I have now decided to cancel my account, mainly because the international selection is so small.

Only thing, I can’t de-register. There is no option for me to de-register. According to the website I should be able to do it, but I don’t see the link. I then e-mail them, only to receive an automated response that I should phone the call centre to cancel my account. Note, this is an international call they want me to make, to cancel my account. And this for a service which is not what I signed up for.

Obviously they don’t allow me to remove my credit card details.

Now what? And yes Leo Laporte, I think you should do something about this. I have heard references on your show that other international listeners are also unhappy.

I hate Audible.com also. Why are these idiots still in business? I can’t believe I wasted my money on their audiobooks but now have no way to play them other than sit next to my computer all day.

      Hey Cooper

What can I say. You are not alone in your Audible.com frustration. I don’t see why it should be so difficult.

+1 to that. And what about all the drm shit? I need special software to play the files I payed for! Which I can’t use because I don’t use windows/Mac! And my mp3 player does not support those files. It’s so frustrating..

I have exactly the same problem - it’s driving me mad. The only way to cancel is to call them to do so. This is total crap if you ask me…
