I love Google Talk. The reason? It’s such a basic piece of software. There’s no adds, and Flash and other kinds of nonsence, as build into MSN Messenger and some of the other clients. All it does is what it’s supposed to.

Thanks to my Brazilian buddy, Otavio (it doesn’t sound right when I say I have a Brazilian), the first thing I learnt this morning when I logged on (05:02), was that there is a new labs version available of my favourite chat client. Labs is Google speak for Beta. All the Google software stays in BETA for ever and ever, amen. So, they needed to find another name for it, so all Google Beta software is actually called Google Labs software. There’s cool stuff available, so check it out.

There are two main differences with the new Google Talk Labs software. Firstly, it now supports tabs, and secondly, it seems to integrate well with Google Calendar. I am currently using 11 calendars to organise my life, so for me this is a welcome addition.
