It started looking amazing. I contemplated stopping it for the day, as it started getting painful. Rob said the shading won’t take long, and won’t be as painful. As the ever optimist, I thought this meant about 10-20 minutes. Clearly my brain was onto it’s own thing by this stage.

The 10-20 minutes estimate was incorrect, unfortunately. It took another 2.5 hours. I must say, if I knew beforehand that the shading would take that long, I don’t know if I would have done the shading on the same day.

5.5 hours later, of which the last 2.5 was REALLY tough, and the tattoo is complete. I am absolutely delighted that I managed to do this in one sitting. Awesome.

That night, my body went into shock, but I woke up in a post tattoo world.

Rob started with the outline, as at the very least I had to sit through completing the outlines. If not, then this tattoo would be a complete mess, as you can never get the tracing the same as the first time.

This photo was taken after Rob completed just two lines. He followed these lines all the way around my arm, and they turned out to be just two lines.

I still feel ok.

The next step is to apply the stencel to my arm. The stencel is the outline of the tattoo, and help the tattoo artist (also known as The Torturor) get the drawing correctly onto your arm.

This part is absolutely vital, escpecially in my case, as the tattoo was so complicated. This took about an hour, which included Rob redrawing all the outlines on my arm again, just to make sure that he got every single line right.

The first step in the process is the easiest, I believe. You sit down, some guy get out a razor, and he start shaving your arm. Easy enough.

I was glad the tattoo was on my arm. I am not sure how I would feal about a guy preparing me for a tattoo on some of the other places I read about.

It was all good though.
